Abstract

Soda-lime glass rods are loaded cyclically (longitudinal tension-compression) in the ultrasonic material test system. Stress curves are measured at various points of the sample (as a function of time) before and after fracture. By comparing the stress profiles thus obtained with computed ones, the applicability of the one-dimensional model (presented in Part I) for the prediction of the behaviour of brittle rods after fracture is demonstrated.
