Abstract
The paper deals with the analysis of cracks formation in plates working in creep conditions. The Continuum Damage Mechanics which uses a new state variable associated with material deterioration has been used to describe failure process at elevated temperatures. The analysis of the influence of a parameter responsible for type of failure, and plate thickness upon the ratio of time of through-plate crack appearance to the time of first crack appearance was main goal of the study. Crack formation has been analysed for square and rectangular plates of different thickness and for different values of the material parameter.
