Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the key decisions in British strategy during the year after the fall of France. In parallel with the struggle against Rommel in North Africa, there was a series of campaigns during the spring and summer of 1941 in Greece, Crete, Iraq, Syria, and Iran.1 Important differences in strategic appreciation emerged between the prime minister and General Wavell, particularly in relation to Iraq and to some extent regarding Syria.
