Abstract
A bearing for a rotatablc jet propulsion nozzle 10 mounted on a fixed pipe member 11 comprises an annular track 15 which extends around one of the members and provides two opposing track surfaces 17, 19 and a series of circumfercntially‐spaced ball or roller bearing units 15a supported from the other of the members with the external faces of the outer races 29 of the units lying between the track surfaces with a slight clearance 40 so that the units contact one or other of the surfaces. The axis of rotation of the units intersect the axis of rotation 6 and are so inclined to that axis that, in the case of each unit, a plane 42 perpendicular to the axis of the unit and passing centrally through the races of the unit intersects the axis of the nozzle at a point 9 lying substantially on the line of thrust of gas discharge from the open end of the nozzle. As shown, the nozzle 10 is connected to a supporting structure 33 which carries an annular chain track 38 receiving a chain driven by a sprocket wheel 39 to thereby rotate the nozzle. A scaling plate is disposed between each pair of adjacent bearing units to
