Abstract
The British Hydrological Society was formed in November 1983 in response to a growing need for a new broadly based national society. It caters to those interested in parts or all of this interdisciplinary subject and currently has more than 500 members. The organization aims to “promote interest and scholarship in both the scientific and applied aspects of hydrology and to foster the involvement of its members in international activities.”The society is an independent body formally associated with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Hydrology in recognition of their special interests in hydrology and with a view to serving both the applied and scientific interests of its members. The affairs of the society are managed by a committee elected by its members.
