Abstract

The cross has always been central to Baptist theology and spirituality but the approach has varied as Baptists have tried to relate gospel and culture for each generation. This first part centres on the theology of Andrew Fuller and the response of other Baptists to it. Part 2 will consider how Victorians and Baptists of the twentieth century focused on the cross.
