Abstract

As an optical fiber sensing technology based on detecting spontaneous Brillouin scattering, Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (BOTDR) is attracting significant attention due to its immense potential applications in temperature or strain monitoring. To enhance the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of BOTDR system, a new BOTDR based on Hadamard sequence probe pulse is proposed. In the new BOTDR system, the probe pulses are constructed from the Hadamard matrix. The experiment results show that the SNR of the proposed system can be greatly enhanced, and it is verified that the sensing range of the sensor can be improved without reducing the spatial resolution.
