Abstract

Tellurite fibers, with their high nonlinearity, large refractive index, and broad Raman gain bandwidth, have attracted much attention due to their wide range of applications. In addition to the aforementioned applications, tellurite fibers also can be used as the gain medium for stimulated Brillouin amplification due to their high refractive index (n=2.03). To our best knowledge, detailed Brillouin characterization of single mode tellurite fiber has not yet been performed. Here, we report Brillouin amplification and lasing in a single mode tellurite fiber.
