Abstract

Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT) and Na0.5Bi0.49Er0.01TiO3 (Er3+:NBT) single crystals with size of Φ 12×50mm2 were grown by the melt-Bridgman method. The dielectric permittivities of NBT and Er3+:NBT are 770 and 700 at 10kHz, respectively. Meanwhile, the dielectric losses are 4.7% and 4.4%, respectively. The Er3+ dopant only leads to the slight decreasing of dielectric permittivity, dielectric loss and transmittance of NBT crystal. The cut-off edges of both NBT and Er3+:NBT are located at 410nm. Curie temperatures of NBT and Er3+:NBT are located at 336°C and 312°C, respectively. Er3+:NBT crystal presents extremely bright up-conversation emission (λem=548nm) under 980nm near-infrared excitation. NBT single crystal as host shows an apparent advantage on the up-conversion emission properties, which can be potentially used as a multifunctional device by integrating its up-conversion and piezoelectric properties.
