Abstract
Surface water flooding is one of the highest risks on the London Risk Register. The London Surface Water Strategic Group was formed as a response to the significant surface water flooding events witnessed in London in July 2021. The London Surface Water Strategy is a collaboration between key organisations which have a role to play in surface water flooding. The strategy will aim to increase London’s preparedness for surface water flooding, while delivering benefits for Londoners, the environment, and the economy. As part of the strategy, natural solutions to surface water flooding, such as sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), will be prioritised. One of the strategy’s key proposals for change is the introduction of catchment-based partnerships which will assist the many contributing parties in the implementation of projects across political and organisational boundaries. This collaboration between boroughs and other organisations will aim to increase London’s resilience to surface water flooding.
