Abstract

London's longest key walking route was built by the Clear Zone Partnership through Covent Garden, London, UK to encourage walking. Great Queen Street was a key measure built in September 2009 that broke new ground in street, traffic and inclusive design. Great Queen Street was the first scheme to remove traffic lights in London in the last decade, explain how to design shared space, show that shared space can work in busier streets, and demonstrate how to ensure good inclusive design.
