Abstract

This legal note has been produced by the Institution of Civil Engineers' advisory panel on legal affairs and forms part of a series of nine other legal notes. These notes give practitioners an outline of and introduction to the legal issues and considerations they may encounter around common topics in construction. This note discusses the applications of building information modelling (BIM), the considerations for the different parties in a project and issues such as industry protocols, intellectual property, standard forms of contract and BIM and the UK Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007. (The full ICE legal notes series is available from http://www.ice.org.uk/Information-resources/DocumentLibrary .)
