Abstract

SummaryRegional and systemic disorders of myopathic or neurogenic cause affecting the masticatory muscles have been reported or suspected in horses. The primary masticatory muscles include the masseter, temporalis, lateral and medial pterygoid muscles. The masseter muscle is the largest of the primary masticatory muscles and the most affected based on sporadic reports. This is a brief review of disorders involving the masseter muscle.
