Brief Introduction of Physics Researches in Chinese Academy of Sciences

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and its various organizations and their respective research facilities. The CAS has more than 10 institutes involved in the physics research, which include Institute of Physics at Beijing, Institute of High Energy Physics at Beijing, Institute of Theoretical Physics at Beijing, Institute of Semiconductors at Beijing, Institute of Acoustics at Beijing, and Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics. The Institute of Physics at Beijing is a multidisciplinary comprehensive institution that is engaged in research on basic and applied physics, including condensed matter physics, optical physics, atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics, and condensed matter theory. The Institute of Theoretical Physics at Beijing was established in 1978 with the aim of creating a center of the highest standards for fundamental research in theoretical physics. It encourages interdisciplinary research at the intersections of various related fields such as theory of particle physics and quark structure of nuclei; field theory, string theory, and cosmology; condensed matter and computational physics; statistical physics and theoretical biophysics; and quantum physics and quantum information. The Institute of Semiconductors at Beijing focuses on various research fields such as optoelectronics and their integrated technologies; bulk, thin film, and microstructure semiconductor material science and technologies; fundamental research on low-dimensional quantum system, quantum engineering, and quantum information; and semiconductor artificial neuro-network and special microelectronics research. The Institute of Acoustics at Beijing was established in 1964, and its main research areas are underwater acoustics and sonar technology, air-acoustics and noise control, ultrasonics and ultrasonic electronics, phonetics and speech signal processing, digital audio/video signal processing, and systems integration. .
