Abstract

Jingfa Deng (1933–2001) was a famous physical chemist and chemistry educator who made significant contributions to physical chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and surface chem‐ istry. He was a pioneer in fundamental research and industrial applications of electrolytic silver catalysts, introduced vacuum surface chemistry in higher education institutions, and a key figure in the development of amorphous alloy catalysts in Chi‐ na. He embarked on his career at Fudan University in 1959 and worked there until he passed away in 2001. He dedicated him‐ self to teaching and research. As an educator, he gave guidance to many outstanding students. As a researcher, he was re‐ nowned for his contributions to the country.
