Abstract

Bleiweis and colleagues1 should be commended on their series of high-risk infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome whom they courageously chose to bridge to transplant with the combination of pulsatile ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation and branch pulmonary artery banding and arterial ductal stenting. Certainly the outcomes speak volumes. With 9 patients in the series, 5 are well at home after transplant, 1 remains on support, and 3 died, with the shortest duration of support of 56 days.
