Abstract

As each crop of new students arrives at North Carolina (NC) State University, there is a tremendous amount of information about computing that needs to be delivered. There are few opportunities at NC State for university staff to communicate directly with students before classes begin. The only live opportunity is during New Student Orientation, held in June before the student enters the university in August. This poster session describes the Information Technology component of NC State University's orientation programs, and discusses a number of our successes as well as some areas for improvement. It discusses the partnerships that are used to deliver information to students and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods of communication. This poster session is intended for academic computing staff who are responsible for supporting students, particularly new students, who often need help getting started with their computing resources.
