Abstract

Treatment of HBF 4 and a slight excess of sodium in liquid ammonia with PtCl 2(PR 3) 2 produces [M(PR 3) 2(μ-NH 2) 2M(PR 3) 2](BF 4) 2 ( 2) (M = Pt, PR 3 = PMe 3, PMe 2Ph, PMePh 2, PEt 3, 1/2Ph 2PCH 2CH 2PPh 2; M = Pd, PR 3 = 1/2Ph 2PCH 2CH 2PPh 2) in > 80% isolated yield. The products were characterized by 31P and 1H NMR, IR and microanalysis, and in the case of PR 3 = PMe 2Ph ( 2a), by X-ray crystallography. In 2a, the cation contains a butterfly Pt 2N 2 ring with a dihedral angle of 32°.
