Abstract

The Chungcheongbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Service has developed a new Dendrobium cultivar, a new cultivar ‘Little Pink’ has pink flowers and dwarf habit (compared to D. kingianum). It was bred in 2007 by crossing D. kingianum and D. kingianum var. silcockii. The seed germination, cultivation, selection, and characteristic trials were conducted from 2008 to 2015. After a specific line with good growth and flower color and shape was selected, the morphological characteristics were investigated from 2016 to 2018, using the standard survey standard to evaluate new varieties of Dendrobium spp. The new cultivar was selected in 2019. It has fragrant pink flowers (Red-purple Group 72B based on RHS color chart) with shading petal. The plant height is 7.3 cm, making it smaller than the control cultivar D. kingianum. The leaf width is 1.2 cm, and the width of each flower is approximately 2.4 cm. The number of flowers is 3.7 on average, and overall volume of the flower pot is relatively high. The length of the peduncle is 7.2 cm, similar to that of D. kingianum. The flowering time of ‘Little Pink’ begins in late February, with flowering period of approximately 30 days.
