Abstract

Various parameters of breeding biology are compared for Marsh Warbler populations in Britain and Europe. Laying date was later and mean clutch size lower in Worcestershire, formerly the main breeding area for the species in Britain. Overall breeding productivity was lower in Worcestershire than in central Europe. BTO Nest Record Card data suggested that breeding productivity in Britain has not shown any decline in recent years, so the recent decline of the Marsh Warbler in Britain cannot be explained by lowered reproductive performance.
