Abstract

Extending the SU (3) Skyrme model of pseudoscalars by adding a massive scalar field improves the predictions for the baryon mass differences when the breathing mode is quantized. The magnetic moments and g a g v ratios of semileptonic hyperon decays are only mildly affected by this additional scalar field. Despite the baryon wavefunctions deviating strongly from SU (3) symmetry the g a g v ratios are compatible with the SU (3) relations.
