Background: Breast MRI has been widely used in the preoperative assessment of breast cancer patients despite the lack of clear evidence about the justification of this practice. Whether breast MRI improves the accuracy of the traditionally triple assessment in the decision making about the extent of the surgery has not yet been clarified and there are no guidelines about the routine use of MRI preoperatively.
