Abstract

It is recommended that full fluoride dosage (0.25 mg/day) be given to babies that are completely breast-fed (regardless of local water fluoride content) because significant amounts are not passed in breast milk. However, if the infant drinks "some" fluoridated water how much is significant to affect the safety of exogenous fluoride dosage? I have not seen this question referred to in the literature. Calculations are shown in the Table. See table in the PDF file Based on these calculations, if an infants drinks approximately 8 oz per day of 1 ppm of water, no fluoride should be used.
