Abstract

Background: The number of women diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) has increased mainly due to breast cancer screening programs. Most women are treated with breast conserving surgery with or without radiotherapy. Recently published guidelines have recommended a margin threshold of 2mm for DCIS, however re-excision when negative margins <2mm are found is still a matter of debate amongst breast surgeons. Our aim was to evaluate the recurrence rate at our center and its association with negative margin width.
