Abstract

PREVIEWBecause of the high incidence of breast cancer, screening is a vital component of overall management of the disease. In this article, Dr Barton reviews risk factors for breast cancer and current recommendations for breast cancer screening from the United States Preventive Services Task Force and professional organizations. She also discusses both accepted screening methods and newer technologies that have been studied in at-risk women but are not currently recommended for screening in the general population.
