Abstract

A case of breast cancer and reconstruction with a free transverse rectus abdominus musculo-cutaneous (TRAM) flap in a patient with Amazon syndrome is presented. Attention is drawn to the fact that a hypoplastic breast with a diminutive nipple/areolar complex does not exclude neoplastic disease of the residual glandular tissue. Special considerations regarding breast reconstruction following mastectomy in the Amazon syndrome are discussed, including lack or hypoplasia of the latissimus dorsi, lack of subcutaneous tissue, and anatomical variations of the axillary vascular system.
