Abstract
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology emerged in the early 1990s, but was not widely accepted due to its high cost and technological limitations at that time. The significance of WLAN applications and popularity of adopting WLAN-related developments deem an analysis of this technology. The purpose of this paper includes the following three items. Firstly, this manuscript addresses WLAN technology and recent developments by providing the industry standards, vendors, applications, and successful examples. A detailed analysis of pros and cons of WLAN technology is, then, introduced to highlight the importance to adopt this technology. Finally, This manuscript will examine the various factors, which will affect the adoption of this technology in the strategic, managerial, and operational levels.
