Abstract
The themes of 'breaking of bread' and 'harvest' are prominent in Mark's Gospel. Episodes using these themes are linked by common features, eg. the Parable of the Sower is linked with the miraculous Feedings of the Multitude by the motif of 'numerically measured increase'; the Feedings are linked with the dialogue with the Syrophoenician woman by the theme of 'crumbs left over after the breaking of bread'. Tnis article will attempt to show that the links indicate a conscious purpose by the Evangelist, and that the same theme, a foreshadowing of the early Church's programme of evangelisation, is contained in the episodes so linked. The agreements and differences of the present viewpoint from that of A. FARRER will be indicated below.
