Abstract

Starting from experimental results on final jump and using physical interpretations of first corona and leader process, a computer aided method is proposed to determine a "limit-volt-time" curve. Furthermore, it is shown that the time to breakdown, U <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">50</inf> and σU <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">50</inf> can be deduced once the impulse shape applied to a given gap is known provided that one utilizes the "intrinsic probability density" concept.
