Abstract

The breakdown characteristics of two rod-rod airgaps in series have been measured. The effects on the values of V50 and ? have been determined as a function of the length of the first rod-rod gap, the polarity of the applied voltage, the capacitance to earth of the centre electrode and the time to peak of the applied impulse. The results have been compared with those for a single rod-rod airgap of equal total length.
