Abstract

In the studies and works concerning the clothing of the common people living in Somogy county their footwear are rarely mentioned. the examination of the local Guilds’ pa-perwork can fill these gaps in our knowledge. One can find there detailed description of cuts and masterpieces, treaties and bills of the guilds’ workers, and cash books. this study examines the written data of the so called ’Hungarian’ Guild in the markettown of Csurgó in the time between 1810 and 1872, as this was the exact time when the usage of footwear began to follow quicklier the pattern of larger towns’ clothing habits.
