Abstract
The state of inter-American relations since the United States and Brazil intervened in the Dominican Republic carries the threat of military domination of the entire continent. In 1961 this situation seemed improbable, and the United States was in no position to impose it, not even daring to give open support to an invasion of Cuba. In those days, the Brazilian position opposing intervention in the internal affairs of other countries had a decisive influence.
