Abstract

This article discusses the privacy issues posed by the transmission of voice data over the Internet. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is lobbying for the ability to monitor private conversations to be built into the design of Internet voice data transmission systems. The possibility that voice data monitoring systems will undermine the effectiveness and security of the Internet is explored. INSET: Then and Now: Surveillance Gets Complicated.
