Abstract
Brassinosteroids (BS) constitute a class of phytohormones which are involved in a wide spectrum of physiological and biochemical responses in plants. The role of BS begins at the level of seed germination and continues till fruit setting and seed formation. In addition, they enhance the productivity of agricultural and horticultural crops. The development of resistance against abiotic and biotic stress situations is also an important role that has been attributed to BS. There have been studies where BS has been found to influence secondary metabolism and secondary metabolite production by the plants. The number of such studies is quite less and also scattered. The main objective of this chapter is to provide an overview on the basis of current available information about role of BS on secondary metabolite synthesis, which will be helpful in understanding the efficient and expanding role of BS in plants.
