Abstract
Article AbstractBecause this piece does not have an abstract, we have provided for your benefit the first 3 sentences of the full text.To the Editor: In their excellent article in the May 2012 issue of the Journal, Phillips et al demonstrated brain-volume increase in patients with treatment-resistant unipolar depression in sustained remission.Similar to previous studies in this area, no mention was made regarding the nature of brain volume decrease in depression. Is the brain volume increase in remitted patients in this study the function of regeneration of atrophied neurons or of increase in the number of glial cells, or both, in the affected area of the brain?
