Brain-Injured Children, With Special Reference to Doman-Delacato Methods of Treatment.

Abstract

In this short volume one finds again a statement of the theory and practice of the Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential, together with a presentation of the results of treatment in brain-injured children. The book lacks both the cosmic perspective and inferences of pedagogical revolution which have characterized earlier writings, and is a serious defense of the Institute's much criticized methods. The author, who began his work with neurologic disorders of children in his retirement years, shows broad knowledge of both current and classic writing in the field. However, these are drawn upon largely for purposes of elementary didacticism and to illustrate the overlapping and conflicting nature of current clinical terminology. References relating to the ability of the developing nervous system to compensate for injury are repeatedly cited, but those concerned with its susceptibility to irreversible damage to the growth potential are omitted.
