Abstract

This publication is a continuation of the first translation into European from the Sanskrit of the Brahmadeva’s commentary on the next fourteenth verses-dohakas of the poetic treatise “The Radiance of the Supreme Ātman” (Apabhraṃśa Paramap-papāyasu). The commentator, following the presentation of the main text, continues his explanation of the Jain doctrine of the three types of ātman: external, internal and supreme. The external ātman is understood as the body through which most people identify themselves, the inner ātman is self–consciousness and the whole totality of mental and psychic life, purified from false states of consciousness. The main object of consideration for the author of the commentary as long as of the main text is the supreme ātman, whose real nature is pure consciousness and nothing else.
