Abstract

Objective: Enhanced Recovery Programs (ERPs) advocate avoiding preoperative mechanical bowel preparations and routine use of postoperative drains, as well as early feeding, even after bowel surgery. One hypothetical concern is an increased rate of postoperative complications as a result of such implementations. The aim of this study was to evaluate perioperative outcomes of patients having a bowel procedure in an ERP compared to those undergoing non-ERP perioperative care.
