Abstract
In this note we compare the maximum number of automorphisms of smooth projective curves of genus g ≥ 2 over algebraically closed fields of characteristic 0 or a prime p > 0, respectively. For given g ≥ 2, we show that for almost all primes p > 0, this number is the same.
