Abstract

1. The existence has been established in the system Mo-Cu-Ni of a two-phase field in which a solid solution of copper and nickel in molybdenum coexists with a solid solution of nickel and molybdenum in copper. The two-phase field adjoins the Mo-Cu side of the system and, at temperatures of 950–1000‡C, is bounded by the Ni∶Cu=1∶4 radial section. 2. Adjoining the two-phase field is a three-phase region with the following coexisting phases: a Mo (Cu, Ni) solid solution, a Cu base solid solution containing 1.5% Mo and 18–20% Ni, and σ, a phase based on the compound MoNi. 3. In development work on alloys exhibiting special thermal expansion properties, attention should be concentrated on compositions lying within the two-phase field studied, as these will ensure stability of structure and properties.
