Abstract

A Green's function is used to formulate the torsion of axisymmetric bodies with internal or external cracks. Mode III stress intensity factors K 3 are obtained for a circular cylinder containing both internal and external circular cracks. While K 3 for the internal crack tends to increase with increasing crack size, the opposite is found for the external crack. Numerical results are displayed graphically.
