Abstract

In this paper, an upwind finite element (FE) based algorithm devoted for the computation on the ion flow field of bipolar high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines. The choice of initial charge density value on conductor surface is discussed to satisfy the requirement of bundle conductor computation. Non-reflective boundary condition is introduced to improve the computational efficiency. Comparison between measured and computed ground level electric field and ion current density shows satisfactory agreement.
