Abstract

The study of wave propagation in a periodic non-linear medium has produced the concept of “Gap soliton”(1, 2, 3, 4). Let us remember it. In a medium where the propagation constant κ is periodically modulated in space, the spectrum of the stationary wave equation exhibits a set of gaps inside which the Floquet exponents of the solutions are real. If κ is made dependent on the wave intensity (index of refraction modified by the Kerr effect in optics), localized solutions appear inside the gaps, which are called Gap solitons.KeywordsKerr EffectSchrOdinger EquationBloch EquationBragg ResonanceFloquet ExponentThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
