Abstract

A previous fit of the charmonium and \ensuremath{\Upsilon} spectra by a simple non-Coulombic logarithmic potential is modified to include systems containing up or down and strange quarks. It is found that the spectra of both light and heavy mesons, particularly, the 1P and 2P state splittings of the \ensuremath{\Upsilon} system can be satisfactorily explained without taking into account the short-distance Coulombic part of the potential as suggested by QCD.
