Abstract

Abstract There is a paucity of data on the perinatal management of achalasia, an esophageal dysmotility disorder involving an abnormal relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter. Botulinum toxin A is a well-described treatment for achalasia in the non-pregnant state but has been infrequently used for treatment of this condition in pregnancy. We describe a case of a successful treatment of achalasia in the first trimester of pregnancy with botulinum toxin A, and a subsequently uncomplicated pregnancy course and pregnancy outcome.
