Abstract

The effect of excluded volume on the particle scattering factor ( P) of a linear polymer chain in solution is described in terms of the boson formalism introduced by Fixman. P is calculated with the lowest order boson approximation to the equilibrium distribution, which gives a modified Gaussian function. The results obtained show the variation of P with the excluded volume parameter ( z). They are compared with those from other theories.
