Abstract
The nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE) is one of the most important models of Mathematical Physics and plays a central role in a variety of contexts, especially those related with Quantum Mechanics. Dynamics of Bose-Einstein Condensates and signal transmission in Optical Fibers are the most important examples. In this chapter, we show that the study of the NLSE with cubic nonlinearity (Gross-Pitaevskii equation) is closely related to the analysis of differential equations with singularities.
