Abstract
Much of the Dutch rail infrastructure is electrified using a 1500 V overhead line system. Design and detailing of both the supporting structure and the overhead line itself are carried out using the Bovenleiding Ontwerp Systeem (BOS), or Overhead Line Design System, along with a number of calculation programs. BOS is a 3-D design package that aids designers of supporting structures and overhead lines with design and verification of overhead line design data at various stages of the design process. This paper provides an overview of the capabilities and design of BOS.
