Abstract

The Borrego Springs shear-zone section of the Eastern Peninsular Ranges Mylonite Zone (EPRMZ) contains unequivocal evidence for ductile shearing with an east-over-west sense of movement. Field evidence includes the presence of S and C planes and shear bands. All lines of microstructural evidence are internally consistent and support the field observations. It appears that the data are compatible only with post–mid-Cretaceous west-directed thrusting on the EPRMZ.
