Abstract

Clean and renewable energies are highly desired to replace traditional fossil fuels, and the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has been regarded as an environment-friendly way to generate hydrogen. Transition metal sulfides have proven to be promising electrocatalysts; however, their HER performance is still unsatisfactory. Herein, we demonstrate enhanced HER activity can be achieved in ZnIn2S4 (ZIS) nanosheets coupled to TiO2 nanofibers by boron doping for the first time. The introduction of B significantly increases the sulfur vacancies, and thus, is favorable for enhancing the HER activity of ZIS@TiO2. Moreover, the well-matched band alignment between B doped ZIS and TiO2 results in promoted charge transfer at the interface, further contributing to the enhanced electrocatalytic activity.
